SOURCE

The amber rings are cut from data: AVISO/CNES satellite altimetry — the height of the whole ocean, measured since 1992.

The space flower is real: an aluminium corner reflector in the dunes at Blåvand, built to return a radar pulse exactly the way it came. Every six days Copernicus Sentinel-1 passes and finds that point again, to the millimetre. The rings measure the sea; the flower measures the land.

LEGACY

A fairytale for the future

There was imbalance
in the kingdom.

In the north
the glaciers were melting.

In the south
the oceans rising.

The wisest people
created a star
and planted space flowers
to estimate the rise
of the next 100 years.

Every year they translated the data
into an amber ring,
as thick as the ocean rose
— and gave it to the king.
